About Me

Hi, My name is Angie Castaneda and I am a licensed home daycare provider in Bakersfield, CA. I am married to my college sweetheart Alex and we have two wonderful children,  a 5 year old daughter named Isabel & a 3 year old son named Antonio. They are my inspiration for Angie's Little Hearts Daycare. I had been considering a career change that would put my business degree to work and wanted to do something that I loved, but at the same time I wanted to spend more time with my children. I had already been caring for the children of family & friends as well as my own during the day while working evenings. Opening a full-time home daycare was actually my husband's idea because he knows how much I love working with children. It was a very easy decision for me and I immediately took the next step - I applied for my home daycare license. That is essentially how Angie's Little Hearts Daycare got started.

I truly believe children are"Little Hearts" and deserve only the best care.

Prior to opening Angie's Little Hearts Daycare, I worked in Auto Claims for a large insurance company. I worked there full-time until my daughter was born 5 years ago. At that point, my husband and I decided that we wanted to spend as much time with our daughter as possible, while still earning an income. I changed my schedule so that I could work part-time and put Isabel in part-time daycare in the early evenings. 2 years later, I had my son Antonio and continued with part-time daycare. My children had wonderful providers that cared very much for them and they had a great time playing with the other children. Still, I wanted something more for them. I wanted not only a safe, caring & fun environment, I was also looking for a learning environment. I had considered daycare centers, but felt my children would be better suited for a small home daycare.  I just felt that home daycares seemed more warm & inviting. These factors played a major role in my decision to open my own home daycare.

In 2006, we built a 6 bedroom home with 2 downstairs bedrooms that are joined by French doors. Those 2 rooms are devoted solely to the daycare.  One room is pastel green with a Sesame Street Alphabet border and the other is pastel yellow with a Sesame Street Numbers border. The floors of both rooms are covered with padded squares in primary colors. Both rooms have numerous activities for the children including a train table, book corner, and drama center with a play kitchen and dress up clothes/props. We also have a good size backyard with plenty of ride-on toys, a kangaroo climber, swingset, large patio & lots of grass. During the summer, it is filled with water activities such as splash pools, slip & slides, and this year a giant party water slide!

Angie's Little Hearts Daycare provides a safe, caring environment where children have fun while they learn. It combines the preschool activities of a daycare center with the warm and nurturing environment of a home. The program during the school year consists of a daily schedule that is used as a guideline. As any parent knows, toddlers are not big on sticking to a firm schedule or focusing on 1 activity for a long period of time. This "guideline" provides stability as well as flexibility for the children. The day is filled with music & preschool activities, as well as time for free play. Television is very limited on time & content. While the television can be a good learning tool, I feel children benefit more thru interaction and hands-on activites.

My goal is to prepare all of the children in my care for the future. I work to prepare the younger children in my care for kindergarten and to assist the school age children with their current school curriculum in a fun & caring environment.

I am constantly looking for ways to update and improve my program and website, so please feel free to offer suggestions and feedback.
